The Methodology Behind Your Estimate
This calculator starts from a base rate for your home size, then adjusts for the factors that actually change how long a move takes and what it costs:
- Base rate — set by home size (Studio through 4+ bedrooms), reflecting typical crew size and hours for that volume of belongings. No estimate drops below the crew’s labor minimum: 3 hours on the 2- and 3-mover crews ($297 / $447), 4 hours on the 4-mover crew ($796).
- Distance — the first 20 miles are included; every mile past that adds $2.00, the same mileage rate as your contract. Miles we drive before arriving or after finishing aren’t charged.
- Extra large items — furniture beyond what’s typical for your home size (a second couch, an extra dresser set, home gym equipment) adds crew time.
- Special items — pianos, safes, and antiques/fine art need extra padding, equipment, and sometimes an extra mover. Specialty handling starts at $75 per item and is quoted for real before your move; the calculator uses a typical amount so the range isn’t misleadingly low.
- Season — winter (snowbird season) and summer (the industry-wide peak moving season) both see higher demand in South Florida, reflected as a seasonal adjustment.
The result is a range, not a single number, because the exact price still depends on details a calculator can’t see — how many boxes are already packed, whether there’s an elevator, how much fits on one truck run. Why is there a range instead of one price?
Two studios can take very different amounts of time to move depending on stairs, packing needs, and access. The range reflects that — book your move and we’ll confirm the exact number after a quick assessment, with no hidden fees added later.
What counts as a "special item"?

Is moving more expensive at certain times of year?
