You did the hard part already — you rented the U-Haul, booked the PODS container, or got a friend with a pickup truck. Now you’re staring at a full truck (or an empty one) and your back is telling you this is a bad idea. That’s exactly what moving labor is for: you handle the vehicle, we handle the lifting.
This service is labor-only. There’s no truck in the price, no mileage, no fuel surcharge — just a crew showing up at your address with dollies, furniture pads, and straps, ready to load or unload whatever you’ve got. It’s the same hourly crew we use for full-service moves, at the same rates, minus the vehicle.
The Two Scenarios We See Most
You rented the truck, you need the muscle. This is the classic case: a U-Haul, Penske, or PODS container is sitting in your driveway or at a loading dock, and you need experienced movers to pack it correctly — heavy items low and centered, boxes stacked to use the space, furniture wrapped and secured so nothing shifts on the road. Or the truck’s already full and you need it emptied fast at the other end, upstairs, downstairs, or into a storage unit.
You’re not moving trucks at all, just furniture. A lot of our labor-only calls have no truck involved whatsoever. A sectional that won’t fit through a doorway the way it’s assembled. A bedroom set that needs to go from the second floor to the first. An office that’s being reorganized within the same building. Same crew, same hourly rate, we just show up and move things where you need them.
What You’re Actually Paying For
Moving labor runs on the same three-tier hourly structure as every other Next Haven Movers job: $99/hr for a 2-mover crew, $149/hr for 3 movers, $199/hr for 4 movers. The only difference from a full-service move is that the truck line item disappears — you’re paying for trained hands, not a vehicle you already have. Equipment (dollies, straps, furniture pads) is included in every tier at no extra charge, and there’s no separate “fuel fee” or “truck fee” tacked on since we’re not driving one.
Booking It
Call and tell us the truck size (10ft, 15ft, 26ft, or a PODS container), whether you need loading, unloading, or both, and roughly what’s being moved — bedroom sets, appliances, boxes, whatever. We’ll recommend crew size based on that, not guess and overcharge you. If it turns out you need the truck too, we can quote that instead — no hard sell either way, just whichever setup gets your stuff moved for less money and less strain on you.

Do I need to rent my own truck for this service?
Yes. Moving labor is crew-only — you provide the truck, POD, or container (U-Haul, Penske, PODS, ABF, or your own vehicle), and we bring the movers to load or unload it. If you’d rather we handle the truck too, our full-service residential moving covers that instead.
Can I book labor for just one end of the move — loading only, or unloading only?
Yes. Plenty of customers only need help on one side, like loading a PODS container at their old place and having someone else unload it later, or unloading a truck a family member drove down. Book either leg separately, or both if you need loading and unloading on the same day.
Do you help move heavy furniture without any truck involved at all?
Yes — a lot of our labor-only jobs are in-building moves with no truck at all: getting a couch up a stairwell, rearranging a bedroom set, or moving a home office between floors. Same hourly crew, same rates, we just skip the truck part entirely.
How many movers do I actually need?
For a studio or a few large pieces, 2 movers ($99/hr) is usually enough. A 1-2 bedroom load is typically 3 movers ($149/hr), and larger homes or tight timelines go to 4 movers ($199/hr). Tell us the truck size and item list when you call and we’ll size the crew so you’re not overpaying or under-crewed.
What happens if the job takes longer than expected?
Billing just continues at the same hourly rate in the increments listed in our pricing — there’s no penalty fee or renegotiation. Most customers give us a rough item list and truck size upfront so the time estimate is close, but slow elevators, street parking, or a lot of stairs can add time, and that’s fine — you’re only billed for hours actually worked.
